Promote Your Business With Affiliate Marketing
Even if your already marketing your business online, you should think about adding affiliate marketing to your long-term internet marketing plans. When done right, affiliate marketing can yield great results for selling your products and services. Even when done wrong, affiliate marketing won’t likely be financially harmful to your business. The reason is because with affiliate marketing you only pay your affiliates after they have yielded financial gain for your business through their marketing efforts. This article will explain how affiliate marketing works and how your business can reap the benefits by offering your own affiliate program.
Affiliate marketing basically involves having webmasters who join your affiliate program place advertising on their websites in the form of banners and text links to promote your products and services. The advertisements will encourage their site visitors to visit your website via the banner or text link. The advertisement links are specially coded with a tracking id so you know which affiliate sent the visitor and whom to pay a commission upon reaching a sale. Unlike the usual type of internet advertising where a business pays a fee to place the ad on the website, affiliate marketing doesn’t work that way. Instead your business doesn’t pay the referring affiliate website which sent the visitor until a sale, lead, etc has been made.
With affiliate marketing you can pay your affiliates on a pay per sale, pay per lead, pay per click or pay per impression basis. You will have to decide which is right for your business considering the products and/or services your website offers.
Pay Per Sale: This type of program rewards the affiliate when a visitor clicks through from the affiliates website to your website and makes a purchase.
Pay Per Lead: This type of program rewards the affiliate when a visitor clicks through from the affiliates website and performs a action such as registering with the website or filling out a application.
Pay Per Click: This type of program rewards the affiliate every time they send a visitor to your website by clicking through your advertisement.
Pay Per Impression: This rewards the affiliate every time the advertisement is served on the affiliate site by a unique visitor to their site. You pay the affiliate a predetermined amount of money, usually for every 1000 impressions served.
No matter which way you decide to reward your affiliates, the amount you pay them will have to be decided upon by a number of factors. Then the amount of compensation will have to be agreed upon by the affiliate and business owner before advertisements start appearing on their websites. The compensation plans usually are so desirable to the business owner because you only pay affiliates if the advertising is effective. I will personally recommend compensating your affiliates well while protecting your bottom line.
While affiliate marketing can be very effective it does not always work. When seeking affiliates to help promote your products and services it’s very important to look carefully on different factors before determining your affiliates.
Here are some important factors to look for.
- Affiliates with experience
- High traffic website
- Websites related to your niche
- Affiliates with proven track record
- Ability to produce positive results
The above are just a few of the things to look for to make a good choice for your affiliate program. These type of affiliates don’t necessarily need to understand your business model to promote your business successfully as they have the ability to use their own internet advertising knowledge to promote your products and services. An excellent choice as I mentioned above is choosing affiliate websites related to your niche but doesn’t directly compete with your business. This would be a great choice because they share your targeted audience with their visitors who would also be interested in your products and services resulting in a higher conversion rate. An excellent example would be if your website sells running shoes while their website promotes marathons. While their website doesn’t directly compete with your shoe business it very likely attracts visitors who would be interested in your products.
In just about any situation, it is worthwhile and profitable to implement an affiliate marketing campaign with little risk and it’s easier than you think. As I mentioned already, make sure to compensate your affiliates well and choose your affiliates wisely. Whether you choose a pay per impression campaign that usually pays pretty low being your not necessarily generating sales from every impression or a pay per sale campaign that does directly make profits from advertising space on affiliates website, make sure you maintain an excellent business partnership with your affiliates.
